As someone living in India, I can honestly say that rickshaw is one of the most horrific things Anthro has ever created. They are used only by the poorest of the poor in India, and the drivers are often emaciated due to overwork/lack of proper nutrients. To take an object so loaded with notions of poverty and loss and transform it into something catering to the rich for $2200 is an embarrassment.
Wow, Anonymous, thank you so much for your perspective. I was not aware of the potentially offensive aspects of the Anthro rickshaw, but now that you bring it up, it really bothers me. I have never been to India, but I have quite an affection for the pedicabs that roam all over NYC. To me, this was a much more attractive version of one of those. Thanks for educating me!
